Vale Lionel Allemand

Vale Lionel Allemand

It is with deep sadness that we hear of the passing of Lionel Allemand at the age of 77. Lionel was a colossal figure in the history of BankVic, and helped shape the relationship of BankVic with Victoria Police, The Police Association Victoria (TPAV) and Victoria Police Legacy.

Lionel, together with fellow TPAV Board member (the late) Mervyn Pickering, was instrumental in establishing BankVic (then known as the Police Association Credit Cooperative) in 1974. Lionel served as a Director on the BankVic Board from 1986 to 2013, including as Chair from 1996 to 2013. Lionel joined TPAV in 1960, and was one of the longest serving Board members in TPAV’s history, serving for 18 years between 1972 and 1990, including a two year term as President between 1979 to 1981.

In addition to his almost four decades of policing, Lionel served as Mayor and Councillor of the City of Doncaster and Templestowe, and on Manningham City Council. Lionel received a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in April 2017 for his services to the community.

We pass on our sincere condolences to Lionel’s family and the Victorian Police community.
