Police Legatees honoured to accept posthumous National Police Service Medals

The National Police Service Medal is a special service award within the Australian honours system. It provides ‘recognition for the unique contribution and significant commitment of those persons who have given ethical and diligent service as a sworn member of an Australian police service’.

The recognition of a loved one’s policing service is important. A recent VPL initiative to assist Police Legatees to apply for their partners/spouses National Police Service Medal resulted in four Police Legatees attending the Swan Hill Police Service Area ‘Victoria Police Medal and Certificate Presentation’ late last year. The medals (awarded posthumously) were presented by Acting Assistant Commissioner Sharon McKinnon.
